Standard English, square corners unturned courts, no indices, one way pips. Reverse design a geometric pattern in mauve and gold. 52+ blank card. This is a superb set in EF condition with sharp corners and clean bright finish. The cards do not seem to have been used but there are inevitably a couple of minor age marks.

Standard English, square corners, unturned courts, no indices, one way pips. An exceptionally rare deck on low quality card in red and black printing only. Reverse design a green geometric pattern. 52, used but good condition with good edges and corners, some age marks but nothing to detract from it being a highly collectable rare deck.

Standard English, square corners, turned courts, no indices, two way pips. A good example of Victorian playing cards. This deck probably used for gambling as the reverse is plain white with a high quality glazed surface. 32 cards used VF

Soo Sik Pai, Chinese four suited chess cards, 4 suits of 14 cards, coloured faces. Red, green, yellow and white. Rev; Glossy yellow. 56/56 with wrapper bearing gorilla(?) picture + ‘TRADE MARK’. Cards measure 5cm long and are in mint condition.

1910 Bicycle No 808 Russell & Morgan standard US face,  wide cards with nice illustrations of early bicycles on the reverse. Ivory finish cards, 'League back' sold in Canada (where USPCCo eventually opened a factory around 1910 moving to Windsor in 1918.) 52 used VF no creases and original box.  £48
826 Ormond

1930 Della Robbia Playing Cards made in Ireland. This is an unusual early Ormond printing with the scarce early example of their Ace of Spades. The courts are almost identical to Waddington. Good quality glazed card, box states 'Ivory finish' on the end flaps and 'Made in Ireland' up the sides. 52+J Hardly any signs of use except horizontal crease at end of 2 of Hearts probably from careless closing of the box which has some repaired damage to the top end. £25
945 Matossian Egypt

1935 Playing Cards No 200 This is a real puzzle.  Although made in Egypt by R.Matossian &Co Cairo, the court cards are unmistakeably Goodall. On the side of the box it has G.Ch which could be for Charles Goodall (?). The Ace of Spades states AMIR Amirayan & Co registered trade mark. What a puzzling pack - research needed. 52+J used VF with two bridge cards dated April 1935. Original box without any flaps. £40
1001 Anderson of Edinburgh

Anderson's of Edinburgh (Bell's Asbestos) (listed on industrial page but included here as Anderson's cards are scarce.  Anderson's of Edinburgh had their cards produced by Porterprint (very similar AS) Standard Porterprint court cards. 52 used VF- some small corner creases + telescopic box.

673 Ormond Ireland Waddington 1945 Ormond (Blarney Castle with Ormond AS) an advertising pack for Irish Great Southern Hotels with a picture on the back entitled Ireland Blarney Castle and a scroll saying Great Southern Hotels. 52+ J + box. Reasonable, used VF-. Un-named Ormond aces are relatively scarce. reserved £14

1945 Gin Rummy boxed set  with two packs of New Bond (Universal PCCo) playing cards in boxes, rule book, score pads and outer box. All EF including cards which are both 52+J. A nice item originally priced at 12/6d. £20

Standard English Canasta set two packs of cards with jokers and the original box which acts as a tray and instruction leaflet. Box exterior a bit damaged and grubby, but cards are in very good crisp condition, probably unused. VF+ The back design and colour is the same on both packs. 2 x 52 + 6 jokers. £14

Standard Spanish 'Side Car' brand by this scarce Argentinian maker. Dated by the tax stamp on the 4 of Cups. A nice quality deck with bold designs and bright colouring; black and white criss-cross design on the reverse. 40 complete (Spanish suits 10 cards 1-7, 10-12) £18

1960 Taroc Complete set of 22 ‘industrie und gluck’ type trump cards depicting 19thC Austrian life and 32 cards in four suits, hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades without indices. Good quality printing and card. 54+2 with instruction leaflet for several games and hinged box (hinge weak)  Cards  hardly used VF+

Four seasons ‘Magyar Kartya’ Luxus no 129. Standard Hungarian pattern, cards named in Hungarian. 32 good quality cards. The wrapper is intact and in good condition.  Cards unused EF £25

Circular playing cards a very nice set in extremely good condition with a good box. 52 + 2J + box. Reverse: design with clock wheels on black background. A Waddington production with gold seal on the box. Scarce set with the Amalgamated Playing Card Company Ace (c.1969-1971 only). A collectors item. VF+/EF £22

Waddington standard c1971-1974 This double set has the Waddington PCCo AS in use immediately after Amalgamated (c1969-1971) and before the Welsh leeks were added to the design c.1974. The reverse is for British Life Reliance Insurance with a striking bulldog design. One deck is sealed in cellophane, the other is unused 52. £16

1975 Tarock  Set of 22 trump cards depicting 19thC Austrian country life and pursuits. 32 cards in four suits, hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades without indices. Good quality. 54+1+blank + rules. Original hinged box in good condition, cards in very good condition VF+

1979

Rare Poker set a very scarce item with special wide style cards and large indices. The set is complete with a load of paper money in 4 denominations, a wide set of cards 52+J and a rules booklet 'Waddington's Poker, Learn to Win Guide Book'. Interestingly the box illustration shows a standard Ace (with leeks) and four indices - not the style of the poker set. All VF. £30
