British Columbia Souvenir Cards published by Clarke & Stuart Vancouver, with oval photographic views. Reverse of a lakeside vignette surrounded by colourful maple leaves. 52+J+list+box(good). VF with gilt edges.  £65

1900 New York City Souvenir Playing Cards featuring '53 Principal views of interest'. The four suits have oval photos in different colours of landmarks and views in and around the city. This is the earlier version before the border was added to the reverse. Cards are in good condition with most of the edge gilding still remaining (though not so bright on the vertical sides). A good complete set of 52 cards + the joker + a blank spare and the original telescopic box in very good condition (usually missing flaps and splitting). VF £75

1901 Niagara Falls souvenir cards. 52 views. 4 indices, monochrome pictures in oval frames. Reverse: Indian and buffalo, a bas-relief effect in an oval panel. 52+box (outer case has been taped and inner is missing end piece). VF £60

Picturesque Canada with oval photographic views. Joker is 'Hiawatha' Reverse: mountain scenery with pine trees framed with maple leaves 52+J+ list of views with telescopic box missing top flap to outer case. Gilded edges with some fading. Good VF. £48

Picturesque Canada for Canadian Pacific Railways. 52 views in oval frames. Joker is horizontal view of ‘Totem poles in British Columbia’. Rev: Large building in river valley, gold border. 52+J+1+list+box. Good VF £50

1912

Ocean to Ocean with oval photographic views. Produced just after George V became king the back has the arms of the 11 provinces. AS has the maker's name under the photo. The cards are as new with bright gilded edges. The box is in good condition and complete although sides of the outer case are splitting as usual, inner case without any splits. Fine item. 52+J +box +list of views. EF £60

Panama Canal Souvenir Inaugural edition, 1915, reverse shows girl by sea with setting sun. Oval photographic views along the canal. 52+J+map card+leaflet + box (scuffed but complete). Cards VF. £75

1925

George V monogram Very few sets exist with the royal cipher. They were probably given as presents rather than being used by the monarch. this set has been played with extensively. They are slightly darker blue than the illustration suggests. Pneumatic (herringbone) finish to reverse, Goodall court cards. 52 cards well used, plus the original box (detached at the hinge). Nevertheless an opportunity to acquire a rare set of Royal cards. £42

Single pack for Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s engagement. Full colour photograph showing off the large engagement ring and entitled The Royal Marriage. 52+2J, Mint with box (tuck case). (I have a few copies of this pack, all mint and unopened, purchased in 1981.)
