1960 17th Lancers and Grenadier Guards  A very attractive double set of military uniform illustrations showing soldiers of these two regiments with striped borders and the title in gold letters at the foot of each card. This is still sealed in the cellophane wrapper (beginning to unstick at one end but not undone) with the 1960 Waddington seal which they introduced as a quality mark for a short time when tax wrappers were abolished in 1960.  £34

'A double point' named pair showing a good painting of two pointers on a heather moorland by Vaughan. Both sets of patience cards are in mint condition with fresh gold edges. 4 indices and a Waddington Ace of Spades. This set was imported into ARGENTINA by Mitchells' English Bookstore and has an Argentinean tax stamp on the Ace of Hearts and a retailer's label in the box. Box is not perfect but good. 52+J+1 and 52+J+1 + box and packer's slip. (Patience card size 44x67mm) Lovely set.

676 De La Rue 1930 After the Dance very attractive period illustration of dancers in pierrot and columbine fancy dress preparing to leave the ball. 52 + original box, lid detached but ribbon hinge present. Bright gold edges  VF+ £28

An even chance, narrow named cards with lovely greyhound racing picture. Produced for the WD &HO Wills promotion of the 1930s, this is one of the rarest designs. Double bezique set with 64 cards +1 joker, rules, 2 scoring markers and good hinge topped box. All very good condition, the cards excellent and silver edged. Would make a good present.

673 Ormond Ireland Waddington 1945 Blarney Castle with Ormond AS an advertising pack for Irish Great Southern Hotels with a picture on the back entitled Ireland Blarney Castle and a scroll saying Great Southern Hotels. 52+ J + box. Reasonable, used VF-. Un-named Ormond aces are relatively scarce. reserved £14

1930 Bok Bird Sanctuary Florida the famous Singing Tower is a national landmark. Title written in black script on the gold line just below the tower. The foreground shows some people relaxing by the water. 52 VF with the outer case of the box missing the end section. £14

1940 Charlton House A design for 'S-S' which I think was a steel company (any other ideas?) I have been unable to trace Charlton House, perhaps a retirement home for employees. The style of building suggests the Cheltenham area possibly. 52 used VF + joker + original padded top box. £14

Dutch Girl a quirky design showing the girl (who looks older than her pigtails suggest) looking over her shoulder. She has two dancing boys dangling from her hands, or are they meant to be dolls? An exceptional set in  almost mint condition. Pinkish border, gold background. 52 + J + original telescopic box, tight, slight surface damage to inner. £40

Fed Up, a lovely design signed by Harry Rowntree of the mischievous pooch attacking his master's silver cigarette box. Fabulous expression on the dog's face by a master of animal portraiture. Pinkish border with gold filigree design. Good gold edges to the cards. 52 + joker and the original very unusual embossed metallic paper hinged box. The cards are very clean and hardly used but there is an edge tear on the AS shown in the photo. £40

The Goal and The Save, two superb full colour Polo designs by artist Paul Brown (both packs signed)  These are very scarce packs. Unusual in that one has 4 indices and the other 2 indices. 52+52 with the original box (not perfect, inscribed inside in gold letters "With compliments British Insulated Cables Ltd Preston Lancs.") and two bridge scoring booklets dated 1932. Both packs good condition, good VF. A good present for a polo fan, something to do while you're not replacing divots! £60
677 Waddington 1925 Golden Eagle and Seagulls by Harry Rowntree. The seagulls design is not named - this is entirely usual in this pair. Both packs in very good condition with good gold edges. The original box is also in generally good condition with the spare cards stuck into the lids rather than on the outside, this is an early style of box and has the registration mark on a label. 52 + 52 + box VF/VF+ £40

The Laughing Cavalier by Hals and The Gold Helmet by Rembrandt A good early double set from the Waddington series of famous paintings. Both sets have been fairly well used and are in VF- condition. The leather case is contemporary and in very good condition with original bridge score cards and a replacement 1940s pencil.

1948 'Laurence Olivier as Hamlet'.  A full colour painting of Sir Larry in one his most famous title roles from the film of Shakespeare's play. Mint pack in the cellophane wrapper, which is open at the top and small piece missing, with the JW Ltd gold seal. (Although the seal is broken the cards are undisturbed.) £32
717 Waddington 1935 McCaddie  (a companion design to Miss Hittie) a lovely painting depicting a cheeky young Scot's lad squinting into the sun, a golf bag over his shoulder. 52+J+slip in original box. All in excellent unused condition. Cards with bright 24ct gold edges. A super item. £48
461 De La Rue 1935 The Morning Flight named in silver, full colour painting of ducks in flight. Silver and blue border, good silvered edges, pneumatic finish (DLR patented herringbone raised pattern to ease dealing) 52 good VF+ with good hinge-lidded padded-top box. £24

1960 Officer US Air Force in the same series of military uniforms as #818 above of the 17th Lancers and Grenadier Guards. This illustration shows an officer of the USAF, in the background an interesting plane on a gantry rather like the space shuttle  but too early for this to be the case (any ideas?) 52 with the original box. Excellent EF. £20

Swift (Supermarine) its first flight was in 1948, introduced into service in 1954. A good painting by Frank Wootton (1914-1998) signed at lower right. Reverse entitled 'Swift'. This deck was a partner to 'Vulcan' also byt Wootton and in similar style. 52 used VF in original Goodall 'Society' box with DLR stamp in lid to Late King George VI (1952) £32

1940 Lady drinking a cocktail . A desirable Barribal design with one of his typically upper class ladies with a very fine hat sipping a cocktail and looking rather alluringly over her shoulder. Yellow border with silver line. The cards have been well used, but the original box is a gem with a super design very much of the period. VF- £15

1940 Soldier and Sailor with their girls Two very attractive picture backs depicting 18th century scenes of a grenadier and a 'jolly jack tar' courting maidens - the sailor's girl not too sure and the town girl clearly impressed with the uniform!
